Tali Barr, Ph.D

Licensed Psychologist PSY17466

I believe that the most effective route to change and healing is through self awareness, I strive to work towards that end in all the therapy I do, both with couples and with individuals

Working with me

I have found that there is no more powerful tool for breaking old patterns and affecting real change than self knowledge. With people who are curious and willing to look inward, I can help them do deep work and find out who they are and why they do the things they do.

I have found that my approach is most effective with couples who are having trouble communicating, individuals who are facing issues of blocked creativity and those who are struggling with their identity.

I have a Ph.D in psychology from CSPP, a masters in Visual Arts from Betzalel and a masters in Philosophy from Hebrew University. My orientation is relational with a psychoanalytic bent. This diverse training as well as being from a different culture has sensitized me to the need to build bridges and communicate authentically.

Before moving to the United States in 1989, I was a practicing artist specializing in oil painting. After coming to America I decided to change careers and in 1997 received a Ph.D in Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. Since then I have have had my own private practice in Berkeley CA where I see a mix of adults and couples Many of the clients I see in my psychotherapy practice are mental health and medical professionals, business leaders, college students, and professors. While my orientation is psychoanalytic, I have also studied deeply other orientations (e.g., neuropsychology, humanistic, and interpersonal) and can bring those perspectives to bear when appropriate.

In addition to my private practice, I have been involved, since its inception, with “A Home Within”, a not-for-profit organization devoted to providing free psychotherapy to Foster Children. I have presented at professional conferences and published papers including a Chapter in “Treating Trauma: Relationship-Based Psychotherapy with Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults” published in 2013
